The History of Olympic Honors Band
Associated with Scholastic Sport Conferences, the first Olympic Conference Honors Senior High Band performance took place on May 19, 1976. Ninety-seven students from nine area high schools performed at Deptford Township High School, starting an annual concert series that has lasted for decades. An Olympic Conference Honors Junior High Band was created a few years later.
In an effort to reflect the ensemble’s growth and inclusivity, the organization voted to change the name from Olympic Conference Honors Band to Olympic Honors Band. This change was made to welcome new directors and encourage broader participation in the program regardless of their school’s scholastic sport conference: all schools are welcomed!
